The Spirit
Bathtub Gin β our cold-compound gin, steeped rather than distilled. Cassia, coriander seed, cardamom and juniper. It''s warming and complex and this is exactly where it belongs.
What You'll Need β serves 1
- 30 ml Bathtub Gin
- 30 ml Barking Owl Amarillo or Campari
- 30 ml sweet vermouth (Carpano Antica Formula or Martini Rosso)
- 1 large ice cube
- Orange peel β for expressing
Glass: Rocks glass, one large ice cube
Garnish: Expressed orange peel
Instructions
- Add gin, Campari and vermouth to a mixing glass with plenty of ice.
- Stir slowly for 30 full rotations. Slow and deliberate β you''re chilling and diluting, not thrashing.
- Strain into a rocks glass over a single large ice cube.
- Hold an orange peel skin-side down over the glass. Squeeze firmly β you''ll see the oils mist across the surface.
- Run the peel around the rim, then rest it on the cube or discard.
The Story
The Negroni is one of the world''s most forgiving cocktails β equal parts booze, booze and booze, and it still works beautifully. Bathtub Gin''s warming botanicals add a layer of complexity that the classic London Dry style doesn''t always have. The cassia in particular plays beautifully against the Campari''s bitterness.
The rule is simple: equal parts, always. Don''t scale anything up or down.
> Carpano Antica is worth the extra spend here. It makes a real difference.
